True Craftsman
With a name like Weidhaas, we can't hide from our German roots or our commitment to quality, which originated centuries ago in Germany and was passed from generation to generation in the Weidhaas family. The founders of the Weidhaas Group, Rob and Bob Weidhaas, inherited a history of quality craftsmanship that can still be found in every clamshell press that bears the Weidhaas name.

Bob Weidhaas, Sr. started his career working for Thomson as a senior clamshell technician. He listened to his customers as they suggested innovations not available on their old-style Thomson presses and in 1979 started his own company, IT&M, to build high-tonnage clamshell presses.

His son, Rob Weidhaas, quickly gained an interest in his father's company and in his early teens learned to “hold a tolerance,” machinist language for running a lathe while producing accurate machine parts. Rob quickly became an integral part of IT&M, which later merged with Preco Industries.

When Preco changed its focus to lasers, the Weidhaases decided to again manufacture their own line of clamshells. Rob Weidhaas, Jr, founded the Weidhaas Group in 2000 to carry on the Weidhaas tradition of excellence.
